Llamas & Cocktails | San Antonio Wedding

san-antonio-wedding-photographer-dominion-country-club-venue

San Antonio’s Dominion Country Club was a classy dream of a wedding venue. Between cobblestone , adobe tile and sweeping spanish architecture with domed skylights, the historical location was the backdrop to a lively evening. Below are highlights of this lovely “May the 4th” spring wedding in San Antonio, Texas… oh, and be warned, the force was alive and well with this dance party.

The day began with leasure pampering by the ladies of San Antonio’s well-known makeup and hair team: Jax Studio. We grabbed lunch at Kneaders and then made our way for our traditional mass ceremony at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Immediately following were family portraits before everybody dispersed to the reception venue.

Once at Dominion Country Club, L + V surprised guests with a llama and cocktails while the wedding party did some fancy portraits in the sunbeams around the beautiful wedding venue’s property.

Dinner started promptly and a rockin’ dance party followed quickly therafter.

Luis & Veronica, you and your friends were a hoot and we are honored to have been a part of your love story this past year and capture such fun and energetic pictures that capture the thrill of your day! // Laura & Nikita (p.s. shout out to second shooter Niki who rocked it with her macro and dance floor storytelling skills. It is always both humbling and totally excited to get two artists together and share a whole portfolio of perspective! You are a joy to shoot with friend!)

Royal Palms Resort + El Chorro Wedding | Scottsdale Arizona | "Fabulous but Comfortable"

Josh + Molly were down to earth and eager for class and elegance with a whole lot of fun. The prelude time was staged at Royal Palms Luxury Resort in Scottsdale Arizona and the grounds were breathtaking. Molly, an attorney, was gilded in a thick satin gown from Mariee Bridal Gallery and modestly gilded with antique earrings and classy chignon updo. Josh was dapper in his grey, blue linen suit from as the men followed suit in a range of dark blue suits. The bridesmaids nailed a poppy modern look with their large floral prints from Chi Chi London and the classic looks were framed with unplanned white blossoms that kept wisping through the air on the winds of a threatening monsoon.

When they first inquired they described the aim of their wedding day and the type of photography they hoped for...

Elegant, intimate, personal, and romantic. Neither of us cares for the "standard" hotel ballroom wedding, and we chose El Chorro because we love charming historic properties. In a perfect world, we would have flowers everywhere, mismatched plates, homemade fruit pies in lieu of cake, fireworks, and our favorite people drinking wine from our favorite vineyards and sharing stories....we are hoping to capture that feel and have a very personal wedding. Fabulous but comfortable, with vintage elements.  ~ Molly, Bride

My goodness, finding the fabulous and the comfortable was effortless with these two. The prelude was calm and the first look was precious. Josh & Molly were incredibly intent on making sure their guests were taken well care of and did everything to honor and keep things relaxed and pleasant. They kept portrait time concise as to not make many wait but were still able to be free and full of laughter. See below to see the rest of their wedding day story...

We were honored to be part of your day Josh & Molly. Thank you for sharing your family with us as they were a joy to meet and laugh with all the live long day!         ~ Joy, LKM & CO.

Pami | Editorial (For a Friend) Shoot | Philippines

Pami and I went to highschool together about 15 years ago. She doesn't remember this but she may have saved my butt in chemistry class with a few late-night studying sessions that may or may not have included a bag full of cheetos, angry flash card reviews and a temper tantrum (or three).

Pami attended Biola University, studied nursing and thrived in Southern California. Through a series of events, she made her way back to Antipolo, Rizal and is currently the (temporary) director of a birthing clinic called Shalom. The long road that brought her back to the Philippines is only one hand-crafted and intuitively designed--a journey that she is smack-dab in the middle of. She works 12+ hour days and administrates, serves, teaches, coordinates, collaborates, delivers, nurses, nurtures and saves...

On this morning we woke up before the sun and I colored her face and did her hair and found a few nice things in her closet and went out to a place where bamboo stalks were glazed with warm morning sunbeams. Ants worked, birds sang, crickets strummed and the hum of a southeast asian jungle was alive and strong.

We hiked through the blanket of humid air a bit. Finding a rickety bridge and a few off-the-beaten-path spots, I took her bags and asked her to breathe.

I spent about an hour with my friend and hoped SO badly that something would turn out well; that these pictures would be beautiful and she would feel beautiful.

Pami rocked the whole darn thing. She carried herself with such poise…(Grin) Don’t get me wrong. It was work to get there. Some of the stuff we attempted were ridiculous and we caught ourselves giggling and wondering what we were doing out in the middle of nowhere with a half-constructed trail. Sweat dripped off my nose while I perched myself on a fallen tree with leaves the size of dinner platters. I tried not to think of the ants with fangs drooling over my foot that dangled above them. I shot and directed and just wanted to love my friend.

Fast forward to last week when I sat working in the air-conditioned comfort of my Arizona apartment wrapping up a few edits from our time in the jungle—thousands of miles away. My moonbeams were her sunbeams and as I was writing, my quick email slowed and some thankful thoughts from deep places surprised me. The session was so much more than a editorial project for my portfolio. Here was this precious lady who shared a few pieces of her worn but obedient heart looking ever radiant in a place that is not always comfortable but a place that she chooses to love and pour herself into. And I was so thankful for her. For being able to see a sliver of the life she lives and people she loves and leads and her heart and spirit that is surrendering. daily.

here are a few highlights...
